Originally from Smederevo, Serbia, Stevan Trifunovic, known to most as Stevo, moved to Vail in 2017 for the winter season and quickly fell in love with everything the mountains have to offer. What started as a seasonal adventure turned into a permanent home, thanks to the incredible summers and mountain lifestyle.
With a Bachelor's Degree in Culinary Arts and Gastronomy Management, along with a background in culinary high school, Stevan has always been drawn to the hospitality industry. Although he began his career in the kitchen, he eventually discovered that front-of-house service was where he truly belonged. After gaining experience throughout the Vail Valley at restaurants including Splendido at The Chateau and La Tour, he found his home at Sweet Basil, where he brings his passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences to the team.
When he's not at the restaurant, you'll likely find Stevan snowboarding in the winter or heading out on motorcycle adventures during the summer. He's also a fan of Anthony Bourdain and his honest perspective on the restaurant industry. One quote that has always stuck with him is, “If anything is good for pounding humility into you permanently, it's the restaurant business.” For Stevan, that sentiment captures what hospitality is all about: staying humble, continuing to learn, working as a team, and always taking care of others.
