Sara Ostrand
Marketing Manager
Sara says this is weird because she is the one who writes the biographies for everyone else and is now having to write one for herself in 3rd person and it is bizarre.
Sara moved to Vail in April of 2022 on a whim for a different management job. She started hosting part-time at Mountain Standard that September and quickly fell in love with the culture. She stepped into the full-time Marketing Manager role for both restaurants in May 2025.
As a Colorado native, she is one of the few that never pursued skiing or snowboarding in her youth and still to this day does not get on the mountain (which, yes, earns many weird looks). She is “one of those crazy horse girls” and has ridden and shown horses for most of her life.
She studied equine science at Laramie County Community College. She then transferred to Colorado State University and finished with an Agricultural Business degree. After realizing she did not want to live in Greeley and work in the meat industry, she moved back to Castle Rock area and worked at Littleton Equine Medical Center as a field assistant, among other endeavors.
Mountain Standard was her first restaurant job, and she got plugged in with the Marketing Director, Jana Morgan, where she began running the social media pages for both restaurants. From there she started taking over the in-house food and restaurant photography (99.9% of what you see on the website or social media is her work). Over time she took on more and more marketing responsibilities.
When not at the restaurant you can find her riding her horse, reading a good book or going on photography adventures (this is why she doesn’t ski or snowboard, she doesn’t want yet another expensive hobby after horses and photography).
