If you have been around Mountain Standard or Sweet Basil for any amount of time, you will recognize Charles Robin. Charles, born in London and growing up in St. Louis, came to Vail as a child, then came again as a young adult. Like so many others, he never left.
In 2012, he came for his first winter as a ski instructor. While studying architectural studies at Tufts University, he came for a season and found a home for a lifetime. He joined the Mountain Standard and Sweet Basil family as a busser during that first year. Despite leaving town after that season, he came back for the winter of 2014/15, and made Vail his home full time from there.
In 2015, he started bussing at Sweet Basil, progressing quickly to food running. In 2018, he transitioned to Mountain Standard as a server. As his interest in restaurants grew, he earned the opportunity to be in a hybrid dining room manager and server during 2021 at Mountain Standard. He completed his move to full time managing in 2022.
In December 2024, he accepted the position of General Manager at Sweet Basil. Thus, making him the ‘Busboy with Keys 2.0’, following in the steps of Matt Morgan who also started bussing at Sweet Basil.
He loves the energy, excitement and enthusiasm in restaurants. The ability to meet new people, cultivate relationships with regulars, and be around those that are passionate about what they do, keep him excited to be in the restaurant industry.
When not at work, you can find Charles skiing in the winter and backpacking in the summer. He is an avid reader and fancy beer enjoyer, plus a diehard St. Louis Cardinals and Blues fan.
