Hugo Holguin

Chef De Partie

Hugo has only lived outside of the Valley while attending culinary school in Boulder.  He was born and raised in Edwards, attended elementary, middle, and high schools in Eagle County, and has cooked in many restaurants in Vail.  Some of those restaurants include: LaTour, Matsuhisa, and the Arrabelle.  Everyone has to start somewhere, and just like most of the greats, Hugo began in the dishpit and worked his way up to Chef de Partie. 

His chef journey started when he joined the culinary team in high school aspiring to grow up to be just like his dad. Chef Hugo has many strengths and talents that contribute to the success of Sweet Basil Restaurant.  He loves the adrenaline rush he gets from working the hotline and finds much satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment after a busy day of cooking.  One of his most invaluable skills is to keep up strong communication between ALL employees.  He is compassionate, funny, supportive, and speaks both English and Spanish fluently.  Although Hugo was born here, he chooses to stay because he loves each of the beautiful seasons here in the mountains. 

During his off time, Hugo enjoys making breakfast at home, and has fun going to the spa, hot springs, and gym.  He also spends some time in Denver going to shows and hanging out with his girlfriend.
